Like No One Else

She can run, but she can't hide…

Ballet dancer Tommie Purnell has finally left her troubles behind her. After a devastating scandal derails her dancing career in New York, she flees to Houston for a fresh start. Her new dance studio is a success and things are going well again. But when a local woman connected to Tommie turns up dead, Tommie is petrified…and doesn’t know where to turn.

When veteran homicide detective Paulo Sanchez walks through her door, Tommie wonders if her troubles have just doubled. She and Paulo had a torrid attraction years ago…but she’s sworn off men because of too many broken dreams. Yet their sizzling attraction can’t be denied, and as their passion intensifies, the killer strikes again. That’s when all clues point toward the one person Tommie thought she could finally trust...

“...Smith’s sizzling suspense novel...takes a refreshingly casual, low-key approach to interracial dating.”
—Publishers Weekly

“Tomasina (Tommie) Purnell is one tough cookie—especially for a ballerina! Smith brings a nasty double homicide and some smokin’-hot love scenes to the table in this follow-up to Whisper My Name. The action stays on the fast track, and readers will be kept guessing until the final pages. This is a tense page-turner that will further enhance Smith’s reputation in the romantic suspense genre—a reputation that is well deserved.

Tommie has relocated to Houston to start a dance studio and
re-focus her life after a scandal forced her to give up her career in New
York. Enter homicide detective Paulo Sanchez, with whom she once had a brief flirtation. When they’re brought together by a string of murders, their old feelings resurface. But Tommie has attracted the attention of a killer. Is she the next target—and why?”
—Jacqui McGugins, Romantic Times Magazine

“Maureen Smith has a masterpiece on her hands. Like No One Else is a perfect blend of romance and mystery. Tommie Purnell is a trained ballet dancer who is starting a new career in a new city. After some issues in New York, Tommie has moved to Houston, Texas to open a dance studio and get her life back on track. Paulo Sanchez is a murder detective with the Houston Police Department. He’s been unlucky in love before and isn’t trying to give it a second chance. He first met Tommie four years ago at her sister and his friends wedding and he discovers that the attraction is just as strong today as it was then. Will Tommie and Paulo take a risk on love or will his current case tear them apart?

Tommie has a past that she’s not exactly proud of. While trying to find herself, she’s treated people in ways she’s not thrilled and been a “Jill” of all trades. When she finally becomes a ballet dancer and is living her dream, her ex causes all her dreams to come crashing down. Now that Tommie has started over, she finds her self in the eye of a stalker who is murdering people with similarities to Tommie in preparation of the final act. Paulo moved to Houston for a fresh start. His family is worried that he hasn’t had a meaningful relationship since his divorce. Paulo is happy being the playa he is or so he thinks until he is reacquainted with Tommie. Paulo is really concerned when the two victims in his case are people he knows. As Tommie and Paulo try to figure out who wants to kill her, they grow closer together.

I would definitely recommend this novel. I enjoyed it so much I have to go buy and read Whisper My Name which is the prelude to this novel. I’m thrilled that Tommie and Paulo found love with each other.”
