A HEARTBEAT AWAY

ABOUT THIS GUIDE

The suggested questions are intended to enhance your group’s reading of my romantic suspense novel A HEARTBEAT AWAY. I hope these questions will increase your enjoyment of this novel that takes you on a journey with Samille Broussard and Brant Kincaid as they solve a chilling mystery and fall in love.

  1. In A Heartbeat Away, family is an important element of Samille and Brant’s lives. Do you think this is important in shaping three-dimensional characters?

  2. A Heartbeat Away briefly explores the idea of interracial relationships, via Jack’s secret feelings for Samille. Let’s pretend this wasn’t a romance novel, where you know the hero and heroine will end up together. How would you have felt about Samille ending up with Jack instead of Brant? Would you have objected because Jack is white, or because you feel that Brant is Samille’s obvious soul mate? And let’s talk about that for a minute. How many of you believe in soul mates—the idea of being destined for another person? Do you accept this only in romance novels, but not in real life? Why or why not?

  3. What do you think about Samille’s lack of sexual experience? Do you think the portrayal of sexually experienced women in fiction is more realistic? What do you prefer?

  4. What did you think of the secondary characters in this novel? Were they well-developed? Did they enhance, or detract from, the story?

  5. Whom did you most suspect in the drug poisoning of the ten teenagers, and the murder of Bradley Whitfield? And why did you suspect this particular character?

  6. Whom did you least suspect in the case? And why?

  7. At the end of the novel, it is revealed that Jillian Carrella and Chad Preston, the senator’s congressional aide, are the villains behind Utopia. Were you surprised by this outcome? What do you think of their respective motives?

  8. Did you find the balance between romance and suspense satisfying as a reader? Did you find yourself more interested in the romance? Suspense?

  9. Are there any characters from A Heartbeat Away that you would like to see in a future novel? If so, why?

TAMING THE WOLF

ABOUT THIS GUIDE

The suggested questions are intended to enhance your group’s reading of my romance novel TAMING THE WOLF. I hope these questions will increase your enjoyment of this novel that takes you on a journey with Samara Layton and Marcus Wolf as they overcome their personal obstacles and fall in love.

  1. Do you blame Asha for the way she abandoned Samara to pursue her modeling career? Why or why not?

  2. Do you think Marcus was wrong for shutting his mother out of his life for twenty-five years? Once you learned the whole story about their marriage, who did you feel the most sympathy for—Celeste Rutherford or Sterling Wolf?

  3. Were you surprised by how easily Samara believed Marcus was cheating on her? Under the circumstances, would you have reacted the same way?

  4. Although Samara was raised not to trust men, it was important to me that she maintain a healthy attitude toward sex. In other words, I didn’t want her emotional scars to carry over into her sex life, because I thought she deserved to be “liberated” in at least one area of her life. How important was this to you? Why?

  5. How did you feel about Samara being a recovering alcoholic? Did that make her stronger or weaker as a character?

  6. Would you like to see Samara become more involved in her mother’s company? Was Asha asking too much of her?
